I was looking at the website for the state museums in Dresden, and I now see a new ticket for all the museums (Zwinger, Palace, Albertinum) including admission to the Historic Green Vault for one day. It's called the All Museums In A Day ticket. At $30 it seems a small discount over buying individual tickets (or the combo-tickets) for each part of the state museum complex. My only question is I don't see anything about whether you still have to reserve a specific time. There are some other tickets for the Historic Green Vault only which they now call VIP and which don't require a timed reservation. I'm not clear about whether the All Museums In A Day ticket is the same as the VIP ticket in that it also doesn't require a timed reservation. Thanks for your help!!
What I see about the All Museums In A Day ticket for €19 still says that it does not include the Historic Green Vault. That matches current info in Rick's Germany book that says you have to buy the reserved HGV ticket separately for €12 (plus €2 online pre-booking fee). When you go to the shopping cart to book a reserved ticket, a different combo offer on that page is for the HGV + Royal Palace for €21 (plus €2 pre-booking fee).
Laura, thanks for your reply. The ticket I'm talking about is here. It says it includes the Historic Green Vault. Sorry, I should have included hyperlinks in the original post!!
Yes, that does say you can get into the Historic Green Vault at any time.
You won't be able to do all the museums in one day, though.
There have been a few threads on this recently, and several people, including me, have reported being able to buy a walk-up ticket for the HGV and not having to wait more than 20 minutes. I don't think anybody's reported that the tickets for the next slot were sold out when they arrived.
Bill - Did you ever go to Dresden and try this new EUR 30 VIP combined ticket? We will be there in October so just now looking into the Historic Green Vault. I can see where I can buy the ticket online for EUR 30 but wondered about the timed entry and whether it worked for you. Thanks! Kelly
Kelly- Yes, the combined ticket worked great. I had no problems getting into any of the museums included, and I just walked right up to the Historic Green Vault and they let me right in. I highly recommend it!!
It sounds like buying a ticket in advance for HGV isn't necessary? We are going on a Christmas Market Tour and have free day in Dresden but don't want to spend whole day at museums. Thanks
Ron, I walked up to the ticket counter in July 2015 and got the last ticket for the next time-slot. I'd buy the ticket ahead of time if I could, but my guess is that you'll be fine not doing so as long as you have a bit of time flexibility. I don't know whether the holiday season will ratchet up the number of visitors, however.
