Has anyone been on the Hermannsweg?
It's a 100 mile hike through the Teutoberg Forest.
The closest I came to the Teutoburger Wald was in 1984 near Detmold to see the Hermannsdenkmal, not to be missed after you read the poem by H. von Kleist, "Die Hermannsschlacht" Can't help you on the Hermannsweg.
I’ve been on a small portion of it many times in Bielefeld, it was my daily wanderweg. It was forested, followed the ridge line right past the zoo and into the city center near the Sparrenburg castle. It was well sign posted and connected with other small towns in the region.
I’ve been on two other well signed trails in Germany, the Hexenweg in the Harz where you hike from hut to hut and stamp your booklet with a little witch at waypoints. I’ve also seen signs when hiking noting the Jacobsweg medieval pilgrimage system where stamps are given at churches with a Jacobsweg shell denoting a waypoint.
EDIT: Most regions in Germany have these fantastic hiking trails to get people out walking. It’s a big deal and a lot of fun.
