I have been doing quite a bit of research for my upcoming spring trip to Germany and the Czech Republic. I will be traveling with friends, and we're all musicians. We plan to spend several days in Leipzig.
I am pretty resourceful with my travel research, but I keep running into dead ends regarding a tour of Thomaskirche. The church does not provide audio guides, and they offer one weekly public tour, but it is only in German. (My German is pretty rudimentary, and I am not sure about my friends' abilities.) They offer private group tours, given by church volunteers, but there's no indication that there would be an option besides German. (I have emailed the church to inquire about this, but I have not received a reply.)
The Bach Museum offers guided tours of the Museum and Church in English for a pretty steep fee (close to $200 plus museum entry fee). Since there are other English audio resources available for the Museum, I hardly think this is a wise route to take financially.
So, this brings me to my question. Does anyone know of tour companies or private guides that provide a tour of the church? Leipzig appears to be just enough off of the tourist beaten path that there are fewer tourist resources, especially in English. Has anyone had experience they can share?
I would even be content with a good audio resource or guidebook that details the church's features.
