Thank You Germany

Over the last year the German forum has become one of the best on the RS forum.

German residents like uwe04, KGC, MarkK, Ms Jo, HowlinMad (sorry, I know I missed someone) and a handful of non-residents who have been to Germany so often that they are always ready with excellent advice; or at least the impetus for a great conversation that leads to self-discovery of the answers. More importantly it helps the OP discover the questions that need to be asked.

It’s the sort of basic, factual and insightful information that may appear on the other big forum, but the other big forum is so full of ……………. It’s hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. The RS forum is much more direct and to the point. Even if we do argue too much about tipping and passports (we all need fun diversions).

Thank you guys. I get to Germany about once a year. Used to be shorter trips visiting relatives in Bonn and Ramstein, but I am getting enough good ideas to want to do a few longer trips.

Thank you very much.

Sorry Fred, I left you off the list. Knowing that you are an honary member of The Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem makes you 100% German as well.

I'd also add Russ and Lee as honorary members of the order. Both helped me immensely planning my time.

I agree, Dave and Russ in particular were so helpful to me when I was planning a trip to Copenhagen via rail through Germany last year - their sharing of their expertise made my trip run smoothly !

A nice initiative to express thanks , Mr E!

Thank you, our experts about Germany !

Hardly. You overwhelm me with your kindness, Mr E. I agree with all names listed and would add Mardee too for her inciteful observations and comments, plus Mignon / Munich who has added her observations and suggestions as well.

"Danke und Dank zurück" would be a typical German answer - "Welcome and thank you as well."

"Gern geschehen" might be the most used answer - "You are welcome" is the official translation but "liked doing that" hits more the meaning.

Similar is "War mir 'n Vergnüjen", often used in Berlin - "My pleasure"

"Da nich' für" is a very Northern German expression - "Not that for".

A special thank also to DeepL, the Cologne startup which makes translations much easier and faster.

Fred, thank you! There are a large number of members here who frequent the Germany forum. and so many of them were very helpful when I was planning my 2022 trip. I can't even begin to name them all but I do think that's what makes this forum so remarkable.

You guys really do go above and beyond. Ocassionaly there will be a poster that says I have two weeks and I want to go to Europe, where should I go? Often I suggest looking through the forum and picking places where the forum provides the most support. That would put Germany at the top. You really cant put a value on it.

I'm in total agreement, and want to pile on and offer my thanks to the same cast of German regulars on the forum.

I lurk here a good bit, and the Germany section is noticeably superb, and the only one where I can off the top of my head tell you the names of the several top posters, along with their unique tone and areas of expertise.

Thank you very much for the thorough and thoughtful responses and the helpful links you share.
