Taxi Service in Regensburg

After our river cruise in May of 2025 we plan to take the train from Regensburg to Prague. How far is it from the pier where Viking docks to the main train station in Regensburg? After our research about taxis in Prague we are wondering if taking a taxi to the Regensburg train station is a good idea. If not would public transport work out?

Thanks for you help.

It's about a 15 minute walk from the Viking Cruise Anlegestelle, or you can walk about 5 to 8 minutes to the bus stop and get a bus to the train station. Here is a link to Google Maps showing the walking route. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8oFcmBLFqZS4XfwJ8

I don't know what your research about Prague taxes showed, but you should be fine taking a taxi to the Hbf.

Where Viking actually docks on a given day varies. Viking can not tell you until the day. When my wife stopped in Regensburg on a Viking Cruise, they had to be bussed into the city to a point across the Danube from the town center.

On a later cruise we had a similar question to yours in Passau. Viking docked in town for the first night but at a nearby town the next, final night of the cruise. They arranged a taxi for us in the morning to take us to the train station. Viking arranged for us to share the taxi with another passenger to share costs.

Mardee, the talk among travelers, including Rick Steves, is that taxi rip-offs (his word) are common in Prague. In fact, his guidebook goes into a fair amount of detail on how to avoid rip-offs, and recommends Uber instead. Ground truth is welcome.

I'm headed there next month so I'll do some asking around.

stan, that's interesting. I've been to Prague but it was back in 2010 and I doubt I took a taxi. Good to know, though. Thank you for the clarification!

Regensburg was the one city where we easily walked from the train station to the center of town. Pretty flat! There are a lot of standard taxis too, not a rip off.
