Looking to travel to Dresden for genealogy on the Tannhauser name. Anyone know a good local tour guide .Some research and tour of area. Hopefully find connections.

Sorry we don't know anyone in Dresden.
Our relatives got out with the SS literally chasing them from Dresden to Hamburg where they boarded the U.S.S. America. It was the last U.S. owned ship to leave Germany before American ships were prohibited from entering the country.
They left behind great grandmother who was very old and was euthanized by the family doctor.
Life was good in Dresden until the early 30's and was probably the most beautiful city in Europe until much of the city was bombed at the end of WWII.
I'd contact the Genealogical Association of Dresden (Dresdener Verein für Genealogie): [email protected] (web site: http://www.dresdner-verein-fuer-genealogie.de/). They can point you to the respective archives and to specialists. I had good experience with the Franconian partner association in Nürnberg (Fränkische Gesellschaft für Familienforschung).
