Taking a train from Munich airport to Passau

When I booked my train I was under the impression the DB train left from the airport terminal. I can't find it on any Munich terminal map. Do I have to leave the terminal to get to the train station? I'm finding conflicting info. Some articles say the train goes from the airport terminal to Landschut to Passau. Other articles say you have to take a bus to Freising from the airport to get the train. I'm not a seasoned traveler and I'm traveling with another non-seasoned traveler.

You can get the info directly from the horse's mouth.

Go to www.bahn.de

Type in "Munich Airport" in the origin field and "Passau" in the destination field, and you will see all the options.
The best options involve one change of trains. That is normal, expected and trivial with train travel.

What day is your travel? What kind of ticket did your travel agent arrange for you?

The train station at MUC is in between the two terminals. Just follow the signs. That hear suggestions about a bus to Freising is because sometimes that is indeed the best route. But it all depends on when you are travelling. So tell us your date.

there are good answers on your nearly identically named thread in the Transportation Forum

I'm not a seasoned traveler and I'm traveling with another non-seasoned traveler.

I wonder if you're shortchanging yourself - I think you've been here in the forum for over 12 years

Maybe an infrequent traveller....

anyway, there are plenty of good answers over there, and the trip should be straightforward, regardless of what your travel agent got you.

Just please share exactly what is on the tickets, on the other thread, so we can get you precise answers

Again, just go to the airport train station, in inside the airport. Follow the signs with the "train" icon. You can purchase a Bayern Ticket for 2 people for 44 EUR at the ticket window, plus a 2 EUR service charge. While there, maybe you can get a refund for whatever ticket your "travel agent" bought for you. Go down to Platform 1 for your train.

There is a train to Landshut at 11:16 am that you should be able to make. At Landshut, you change to a train to Passau Hbf. You should arrive on Platform 5, and you change to Platform 4. That means you will have to go down stairs to the under passage, walk about 20 or 30 feet to the stairway up to Platform 4, You should have 21 minutes to do this, plenty of time.

You can see all of this for yourself at https://int.bahn.de/en

It is not very clear what kind of ticket your "travel agent" bought. It should say from where to where and the date. Or maybe they did buy you a Bayern Ticket, in which case it should just say Bayern Ticket and the validity date.

Thanks for the detail! I wasn't going to leave until 1 because I didn't know if I could make it by the 11 train.

Well, you can decide on that when you arrive. These are regional trains, think commuter trains. There are no reserved seats, you just get your ticket and get on board. The 1:16 pm departure, your connection at Landshut is on Platform 3 instead of 4. Timing the same. But if you find you land early, get through passport control quickly and get your luggage, you could be at the airport train station by 10:30 am, then why hang around an airport if you don't have to.

PS, the icons and text are tiny on this official Munich Airport terminal map but they are there. Text "Deutsche Bahn Ticket Machine" and "Deutsche Bahn Schalter" and train icon.

And here is a Youtube video showing how to get to the airport train station. While it is specific to the Munich S-Bahn system, Deutsche Bahn is now running a few regional train from the station.

At minute 2:40 to 2:47, you will notice at the bottom of the station list "RE22- Regensburg". That is the train you want. It stops at Landshut on the way to Regensburg.
