Thanks to the great input from so many helpful posters on this forum, my family has shifted our June 2022 plans around to head to the Berchtesgaden area the week of 6/20. Since we'll be there during the summer solstice, I'm hoping we might be able to find somewhere in/around Berchtesgaden OR near Salzburg (western side) that would be a good place to see a few fires on the mountains.
Anyone familiar with this in that area? Googling is not yielding all that much info since most of it steers me toward the Tyrol area (which we're avoiding). Anyone know: a) if there are mountain fires for the solstice in this area?; b) where a good town would be to see them from (ideally from town not from on the mtn since i have young-ish kids); and c) which date's used for it?
Right now we're in our Berchtesgaden hotel from 6/21 to leaving on 6/24 (in Munich before and landing on 6/18 so anything on 18th is out). Hotel has not availability for 6/24 or 6/25 so we planned to go to Salzburg for 1 night then back near Munich. IF there are neat solstice mtn fire spots in the area though, we'd stay for the last two days and just leave early on the 26th for the airport. Salzburg timing is flexible and fine to do as a day-trip as we mostly want to see the castle there & browse old town a little bit.
