We will be in southern Germany in July of this year. Any suggestions
on worthwhile venues to experience German folk type music?
Will be staying in Schliersee south of Munich and doing day trips.

Three possibilities in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The town holds nightly concerts in the beautiful Kurpark during the summer. The genre and ensembles vary from night to night, but Bavarian Volksmusik usually features in the rotation somewhere. You would have to check the schedule.
The other is in the Fraundorfer restaurant, on Ludwigstraße in the Partenkirchen section of town. 6 nights a week, there's a guy singing and playing an accordion.
If you want to wake up early, you can hear the fire brigade marching band playing on Sunday morning as they walk to church in Partenkirchen.
If all else fails, head to the Hofbräuhaus in Munich.

Glad you saw this, Tom. I was going to say the Hofbräuhaus in Munich"(which is where I'd seen German folk type music), but thought I'd better wait for an expert.
