suggestions for 2 night stay near Munich during Oktoberfest

Hi friends -
I plan to stop in Germany for a few days on my way to Zagreb, Croatia. I will be traveling with my 11-year-old daughter. We will likely arrive the morning of Friday, October 5 and continue on to Zagreb on Sunday, October 7 (although we could go a day later).

My top priorities are convenience and efficiency, given our short time there. Also, we plan to fly direct to Zagreb, so Munich is a nice choice (although Frankfurt could also work).

I'm sure my daughter would like to see Neuschwanstein Castle. My tentative plan would be to rent a car, stay in or near Füssen for both nights (seeing the castle, etc on Saturday), and return to the airport on Sunday. However, I also see that it is the last weekend of Oktoberfest, which would be kind of cool to attend. What would be the most feasible way to include a stop at Oktoberfest? I imagine parking there is very limited, but is there perhaps a convenient park and ride or similar?

I am grateful for any thoughts about this plan, and very open to suggestions for alternate plans, too.
Mike

Are you arriving on a transatlantic flight? If so, I'd forgo renting a car. You'll be wiped from the flight and not ready to deal with Munich traffic especially at Oktoberfest. You can get around perfectly well on the train.

If anything, I'd arrive a day early so you could visit Oktoberfest on a weekday afternoon. Then you will be able to find a place to sit. Saturday and Sunday will likely be packed all day long. Then you could do Oktoberfest on a Friday afternoon. You can travel on a Bayern Ticket for 25 EUR for the whole day, so you could use it on your arrival day to get to Fuessen, for a day trip to Munich for Oktoberfest, and to go to the airport on your departure day of Sunday as long as your flight to Zagreb is i the afternoon.

Staying in Fuessen might work as hotels in Munich can be expensive and in short supply during Oktoberfest.
