My 19 year old daughter and I will be visiting my friend in Stuttgart in May for 11 days. We will be doing day trips to Heidelberg, Esslingen, Besigheim, and Ludwigsburg. We are going on a 3 day trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen with my friend. My question is I would like to take my daughter to France or Switzerland for just a 2 day overnight trip. Any suggestions? Thank you!
It depends on what you are looking for, but Alsace, France would be an easy trip from Stuttgart. Train travel from Stuttgart to Strasbourg is a fairly short trip. With a car it would be even better for touring the area and maybe stay overnight in Colmar.
The Swiss alps work if you can stay overnight. For instance, from Stuttgart to Luzern takes 4 hours or to Appenzell or Lauterbrunnen each take 5+ hours by train, with several connections. How to Look Up Train Schedules Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it.
The Alsace region is definitely a lovely area to visit. We've been to Colmar in particular and it was a town I'd go back to stroll through.
If you're in STR, May 18 you should go to the Weinwandertag in Esslingen. A lovely stroll through the vineyards with food and wine stops along the way. Requisite band at the end point. Your best bet for a nice overnight trip is Lucerne, Meersburg, or Strasbourg. Strasbourg is the easiest by train.
Thank you all! I think my daughter and I will visit Strausbourg!!!
