Stuttgart Germany Stay

My husband and I are traveling late March 2018 to Stuttgart for two nights. We will arrive from Miami in the morning and we'd like to do the Porsche and Mercedes museums, one day each. We are flying out of Munich. Where do you suggest that we stay? Thank you.

Well the museums are on opposite sides of the city so somewhere central is probably best especially if you will use to the train to Munich. Both are closed Mondays and Mercedes also warn that visiting on days when their neighbours (the football club VfB Stuttgart) have a game may be difficult.

I'd recommend you stay in the city center. Everything is easily reachable by public transit here, so there's no need to stay out by the airport, you'll just be spending a lot of time on the S-Bahn train to get into the center then transferring to another S-Bahn at the Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof or HBF) to get to the museums. I also wouldn't recommend staying by either museum, they're out in the suburbs (Zuffenhausen, where Porsche is, is particularly dreary). Both museums are a 10 minute train ride from the HBF so I'd just stay downtown (Mitte).

Hotels are quite pricey in Stuttgart since we get a lot of business travel, so you might want to consider an apartment via Booking.com or even AirBnB. There are a lot of hotels right at the HBF, but there is massive construction going on in that area right now so it's not that pleasant, plus with the exception of the CityHotel IN the HBF, they're all quite pricey.

Motel One is reasonably priced, quite central, and has decent reviews. A lot of the other hotels downtown do not, sadly.

We stayed at the City Hotel at Uhland Straße 18 a couple times. It is in a nice residential neighborhood near the Charlottenplatz Sbahn station. We also walk from/to the main station. The rooms are small, which is common in a large city, but the staff and breakfast are good. The prices seemed moderate for Stuttgart but would be high in trade fair season.

I have stayed at Motel One in multiple cities. The chain offers spotless, simple, small rooms at a reasonable price. I am staying at the Stuttgart Hbf location for the first time in December and am paying €93 per night (with breakfast) at the height of Christmas market season.

Thank you for all your input. I contacted Motel One and I have to wait till mid September for rates. City Hotel seems a bit older, I was looking at Aloft but it seems a little further.
