Stuttgart

We are a family of three (2 adults and one 2-year-old) spending a couple nights in Stuttgart in early September and would like hotel recommendations. $100-160/night.

You understand your requirements and budget - we do not. My recommendation is to go to the Tripadvisor Hotel Page for Stuttgart and look for something that fits your needs. There you can look through ratings and feedback from hundreds of previous customers.

We have stayed twice at the City Hotel at the recommendation of a Stuttgart local (Marco Polko on a few boards). Rooms are small, which seems standard for median price rooms in large cities. Breakfast was good. Staff spoke English if that matters. There was parking in front of the hotel if you are driving. We walked there from the main train station but a taxi might be nice with a small child. It is in a residential community a short walk from the castles (residences) and the main shopping district.

Ratings on Tripadvisor have to be carefully read. I was almost talked out of a hotel by low average ratings. Then I noticed that all the low scores and negative comments were by folks who had only made a single TripAdvisor post. I think a competitor was stuffing the ballot box.

If you check ratings on HRS.com or some other booking site, they verify that person actually stayed at the hotel before they allow them to rate it. HRS.com always sends me the rating form after the stay. You can use the ratings whether you choose to book through them or not.
