We will be heading to the Baltic from Berlin for a few days. We would like to visit Rugen from Stralsund. Would it be easier to rent a car in Stralsund or just take the bus around Rugen? There are some archaeological sites we would want to visit. Any recommendations as to places to stay? Thanks
With a rental car you are more flexible on the landside.
Tip: Rental cars are cheaper when not picked up at airports or main train stations.
Stralsund has nice hotels, e. g. Hotel Hafenresidenz.
Just a thought to "archaeological sites": I do not know your time available and further plans but a two day trip away in Sweden you will find the UNESCO world heritage rock carvings of Tanumshede in Sweden.
Closer to Rügen is Danish island Bornholm with rock carvings in Madsebakke. There is a summer ferry from Sassnitz to Rønne.
Thank you for the information. Distances and bus lines were a bit hard to determine, so I think a car will be best for Rugen. I speak fluent German, so shouldn't be a problem there. The petroglyph sites look wonderful. Unfortunately, they will have to wait until the next trip.
