storage lockers

My daughter will be joining us on our 2 week vacation in Germany. She will be coming from Iceland as she has an internship there this summer. We are timing it so we leave for Germany the same day she is done and would be going home. The question is about storage lockers in either airports or train stations. What is the time limit? Is there a secure way to store a suitcase for 2 weeks? She could pair down to a day bag for our visit, but what to do with her other stuff?

In which airport or city would you want to leave it? Are you also staying in a hotel in that city? I'm sure the kind folks on this forum will know the answer with just a bit more info.

So, she's not flying back through Iceland? And which German city will you fly into and out from? Your hotel in that city might agree to keep the bags at no cost. Airport services are likely to vary by location. At Frankfurt Airport, for instance, it sounds like two weeks would be no problem, but expensive.

I assume you'll be meeting at an airport - and perhaps staying overnight nearby. I have left bags for a couple of days with hotels where I stayed as a customer in the past - for no charge. Perhaps if you're meeting at the same airport that you intend to fly home from, you could do the same for a couple of weeks for a reasonable fee negotiated with the management of a nearby hotel.

Of course you'll likely have additional baggage fees with the airline transporting your daughter to Germany, and with your airline heading back home, on top of any fees paid to the hotel... Perhaps some or all of it could just be shipped home directly from Iceland. Your daughter might consult with her internship supervisors on how to accomplish that.

Most big train stations have left storage when they screen the bag but for two weeks it would be cheap to use an express service and send the bag home. Few places have individual storage lockers - security issue - and if they did the lockers are only good for 24 hours. It is asking a lot of leave a bag at a hotel for two weeks even if you stayed there a couple of days. And storage would be no security or only very little security. Send it home.

We will be flying in/out of Frankfurt. She has to go back through Iceland as that was how her ticket was done by the University. I will have to see if she can ship a box home .

There is a Gepäpck Aufbewahrung (check room) at the Frankfurt Hbf, just off the hallway leading to the "city exit".

We stored our trekking gear at our Reykjavik Hotel for a month while we did other things in Europe. Picked it up on the way back, no cost.

I suspect that a locker (Schließfach) at the Frankfurt Hbf would be cheaper for 6 hours than the check room. There are many lockers around the check room.
