Storage for cruise clothes before touring Europe?

We are arriving in Hamburg from America and need to lighten our load. No need to travel with tux and evening dresses not to mention dress shoes. Any lockers known of at the port or close by?

There are lockers at the Hamburg Hbf. You can take the S-1 from the airport to the Hbf.

Which cruise line are you going on? Except for a few "high end" cruise lines, they mass market lines such as Celebrity,Princess, and HAL (for example) have all dropped the "formal" dress code to "evening chic". Pretty much it's been embraced by the passengers except some of more senior (both age and experience) cruisers who are mourning this change. With the extra charges for luggage these days,it's great to not have to take those fancy clothes.

We want a long term locker as we will have come from Queen Mary 2 transatlantic. That will give us relief from lugging formal clothes around Europe. Hard to fit formal clothes and shoes in a touring backpack along with traveling clothes. We will return Queen Mary 2 as well. Husband doesn't fly. (Sigh)

Ask Cunard if they have storage faciliies at Hamburg cruise terminal. You are, after all, making a return trip on the QM2 so they might accommodate you. They might even keep your stuff on board for the return sailing. Can't hurt to ask.

Maybe you should ship them home. It might be cheaper to pay the fee (clothes don't weigh a lot) than pay for many days in a locker. On my previous Trans-Atlantic cruise some people brought their older clothes and then trashed them.

RickS: The OP has said they are also going back to the US on the Queen Mary from Hamburg, so they will need their fancy duds for the trip home.

There are no storage facilities at the cruise terminal.

The lockers at the Hbf are for long term but they are not cheap - not sure how long you need. There was a manned luggage storage as well - I think it is still there.

The other option would be book a hotel for the night before your return cruise departs and see if they can keep the the bag for you.

Hi,

What you need for storing the cruise luggage is the "left luggage" facility at Hamburg Hbf. That's the "Gepäckaufbewahrung". Hamburg Hbf has blocks of coin lockers located in different parts of the large station. If those don't work for you, then I suggest the "Gepäckaufbewahrung." Be advised that where the coin lockers are located, no change machine is around.

Which terminal are you arriving at? Which "bridge?" (Brücke) From that stop "Landungsbrücken" to Hamburg Hbf is one station. Take the S-1 as suggested above.
