Staying on Lindau, Ferry to Meersburg and Mainau in summer

Hello,

I am hoping for advice on which of the many ferry and boat options is easiest to book for summer, from someone who has had the experience. We (grown daughter and myself) are staying on Lindau (island) for two nights and wish to take a ferry to Mainau and Meersburg during the day.

In researching I have become confused by all the options. I envisioned a hop on, hop off ferry but it seems I need to book a time? Catch a specific one between Meersburg and Mainau and return to Meersburg? Some including Mainau garden entry - is that less expensive? Any and all advice appreciated! Including restaurants in any of those locations.

Thank you!

The ferry from Meersburg takes less than an hour and goes to a point about halfway between the city of Konstanz and the island of Mainau. I've done this several times. There's a bus from the ferry point to the island, and I expect you could use a cab also. (I drive.)

There are ferries that go direct to the island, you land on the opposite side from the main (land) entrance. It's the place where many of the restaurants are located, and a short walk uphill to the main residence buildings. I've not used these ferries, but my understanding is they make multiple stops on the route from Lindau. They are fairly popular.

On Mainau the land entrance has a beer garden type places that's good. By the ferry landing there are several places in a row and an ice cream stand that's very popular when it's warm out. There are also a couple places further around on the other side of the residence buildings, but I've never used them. It's not uncommon for people, including families, to bring food and eat on one of the benches facing the water or on one of the large lawns.
