Hi: I've booked a trip to Germany in December with a short stay in Salzburg and then one day in Berchtesgaden. I was looking up easy and scenic walks in Berchtesgaden and I saw that there is a nice one Klausbachtal Valley to a wildlife feeding area. However, it looks like it would require transportation to get there. I'm traveling by train and bus on this trip so would it even be worthwhile to try visiting Klausbachtal if I just have one day? If so, how does one get there from Berchtesgaden? If not, what is another recommended scenic/hike walk in this area? Thank you in advance!
There is a bus, RVO 847, from the Berchtesgaden Hbf to Ragertalm, a bus stop near Klausbachtal, but it only runs in the summer, May to October.
It would be a two hour (8km) hike from Ramsau to Klausbachtal. I doubt that you could find a taxi in Ramsau in the winter.
You might want to visit Wimbachklamm. It's about 10 minutes by bus (RVO 846) to the Wimbachbrücke stop, then a hike of half mile to the Klamm. It's not a wildlife feeding area, but it is a hike in a Klamm. With the spray in the Klamm, it's nice on a hot day in the summer. I don't think I would want to do it in winter.
Thanks for the info! I will look into the other hike you mentioned. After my post, I found a site that mentioned taking the RVO 846 to the Hirschbichlstraße stop for the wildlife hike in Klausbachtal.
I know this is a Germany travel forum, but should I consider cutting one day out of Salzburg and adding one day to Berchtesgaden? I'm mainly going to Salzburg to experience their Christmas markets but for my overall travel goals and preferences, I like more alpine and scenic places when I'm traveling (hiking, outdoors). I just want to make sure I'm not missing out on more in the Bavarian Alps on this trip. I know it being winter limits the hiking I can do, but I still would appreciate the atmosphere of being in the Alps vs a city like Salzburg.
