We will be in Munich the last week of July and we will have a car. We want to go to Salzburg and thinking it would be a day trip. Where is the best place to stay while in the Munich area - outside Munich and use the public transit into Munich? Or stay in Munich but how is the parking?
The Eden Wolff Hotel is directly across the street from the main railroad station and thus centrally located within walking distance of most of what you want to see. They have an underground garage. Check Booking.com for other Munich hotels with parking.
My only experience of lodging in Munich with a car was at Hotel an der Opera, which is the name implies, is very close to the theater and Residenz. It's also right around the corner from the Hofbräuhaus, so if things get a little rowdier than you may have otherwise planned, you can easily stumble back to your room. There's no on-site parking, but you get a discount at a nearby garage, although good luck finding the garage without a GPS. It's a decent hotel, if nothing too fancy.
It goes without saying that Munich is one of the least fun Germany cities to drive through.
