Staying 1 night in Freiburg or Strasbourg

Hi

Am having a 3 days 2 nights stay @ Colmar (also visiting Riquewihr Ribeauville and Eguisheim if time allowed)

Need an advice for our 3rd night, shall we choose Freiburg or Strasbourg? As we planning to do a day tour to Black Forest the next morning, is a kind of 9am-6pm tour start from Offenburg (yes will need to take a train there).

So, after Black Forest, basically we have an evening + the next morning till we take a train back to Paris around 11am (via Strasbourg).

Is it sufficient time to explore Freiburg in 1 evening + 1 morning?

If not, shall i choose Strasbourg instead to save time?

It would be helpful to know how organized and institutional the "tour" of the BF is. Will you be walking in the forest, or just getting out of a minibus at waterfalls? Neither Strasbourg, nor Freiburg is really a village in the Black Forest. Although it's not geographical, it's significant that Freiburg hotels don't give out the KONUS transit card (internet research ... every OTHER town in the BF ) that might get you (have to check-I've never been to Offenburg) all the way to Offenburg at no charge.

The real point I'm making is that if you stay in a forest-y town, you can take a free train or bus to a trailhead and walk back to your hotel through the forest, and have (research) a nice dinner at dusk (month of year not stated! Wine harvest season?) either at the hotel or a recommended restaurant. That said, I like both Freiburg and Strasbourg, but they are not really comparable, either to sleep in or by location.

I'm sorry not to answer your question directly, but I don't find the question helpful to your trip!

Isagillets, I was not disparaging one town over another. I'm not an expert on the actual trail maps. I only meant that walking between two smaller towns is different from hiking from the center of a "city" (like Freiburg) to the outskirts to begin a walk. It's also pleasant (maybe because I'm 64) to arrive at the end of a trail with your private hotel room and shower in front of you. I know there are many, more serious "hikers" than myself. I guess I also meant that a town that does NOT offer the KONUS card is not forest-y.

After all, the question was whether to sleep in Freiburg or Strasbourg. How is the Black Forest hiking around Strasbourg, Isa? One reason I slept in Vitznau (which might be described as a rich-folks destination, not a Rick Steves destination) was so I could walk back there from Titisee (which I had a specific desire to see, despite its gross over-touristing.)
