Just to prevent the impression that museums in Germany are closing for renovation and never re-open again:
Tomorrow (Oct. 30, 2025) the 143 years old State Museum in Schwerin will reopen for visitors after four years closing for modernization work. Old masterpieces meet modern art in various presentations. Visitors can now look forward not only to modernized rooms and new exhibition concepts, but also to something special: Three Rembrandt paintings from Amsterdam will be on display in Schwerin for the next six months. And on top: free admission for four years.
It should be mentioned that not the entire museum will be opening. The museum extension, which has been in place since 2016, will remain closed for the time being. It needs to be renovated after the conversion work. According to Zinnow, the new building should also be open to visitors again in a year's time, by early 2027 at the latest.
