Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have a new logistical challenge on my last day in Germany. I will be in St. Goar on a Saturday morning and have a 5:30 p.m. flight to Copenhagen that afternoon (from FRA, not Hahn). I want to figure out something to see/do before my flight. I will have spent 3 days on the Rhine just prior, and for peace of mind want to be heading in the direction of the airport on my journey. I'll have my luggage, so I want to minimize carting it around. My thought is take the train somewhere, stash my bags in a locker, stroll around, have lunch, and head to the airport by 3 p.m. I am thinking Mainz or Frankfurt, but hope others will chime in on those options or other thoughts? Ideas appreciated, thanks!
Mainz or Wiesbaden are the obvious answers, since the city of Frankfurt lies on the far side of the airport from your direction of travel.
Mainz - things to do
A walk around Mainz
Mainz Hbf is an old station with a newly-remodeled interior, locker storage, and plenty of services.
If you didn't have the luggage to pack around, I would suggest somewhere like Rüdesheim, but I don't see that they have lockers (Schließfächer) there, so the next best option would be Mainz.
Thanks all - looks like Mainz wins! Great links Russ :)
