St. Goar in winter - Romantik Hotel Schloss Rheinfels

I am planning a trip to Europe in February 2017. I am wanting to spend a couple days along the Rhine river valley. Main plan is to tour Marksburg and Burg Rheinfels. I understand hours are limited in winter, Marksburg seems to be open 7 days a week but limited hours and Rheinfels is only open for 2 tours on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, I am hoping to do the early tour on Saturday.

I was thinking of staying in St. Goar coming straight from CDG on a Thursday and heading to Baden-Baden on Saturday afternoon. Accommodations are limited due to winter season, found Romantik Hotel Schloss Rheinfels.

What are peoples experiences of Rhine river valley in the winter?

Thanks,
Steve

What are peoples experiences of Rhine river valley in the winter? Many, but not all, restaurants close for the season. The atmosphere is usually very damp and gray. More often above freezing than below.

It is unlikely to have an ice storm.

My advice: Stay in Koblenz near the station and visit Marksburg (in Braubach, 10 min. by train from Koblenz) and Rheinfels on train outings. Koblenz will have places to eat. St. Goar and the other small towns may have a kebap or two on offer but will essentially be shuttered.
