Spring is here again, and for non-German travelers on German roads, a seasonal "feature" can add a bit of excitement to the journey — which may occur as last-minute road closures or suddenly braking by the vehicles ahead. Reason: young animals crossing the street or affecting traffic in another way.
Just today the Autobahn A 66 was closed for a short time to enable safety to search the median part of the highway for little ducks. 10 of them were hiding in green, were found and put into a little box for safe transport into nature. Cute photo in this post of public broadcast of Hessen (link).
In some towns they hang special road signs to warn for crossing of little ducklings (example Rendsburg).
For fans of German language the author of the post highlighted in big letters how often the word "Ente" (duck) is appearing in other German words.
So, be aware of this when driving in German spring time.
