Travelling to Oberrammergau from Munich on our own (Couple, 2). Best RS Way to get from Munich to Passion Play to join our tour at reserved Hotel night before. Please be Specific about How to Book the Most Affordable Option (Thinking Train?) as I am not perhaps as Savvy a Traveller as The RS Forum, but definitely NOT a Tourist.
If you are going from Munich City, it is 9 EUR per person with the Summer "(9 EUR ticket). Since it is a regional train there is no reason to book in advance. The trains never sell out and seat reservations are not possible. You will change trains at Murnau along the way. Train goes from Munich Hbf at 32 past the hour.
If you are coming from Munich airport. Same 9 EUR ticket applies. Take the S-Bahn to Munich Hbf, then change to the train to Oberammergau (change at Murnau).
The 9 EUR ticket is valid for one calendar month in the months of June, July, and August.
I did the regional train as outlined by Sam above when I attended the passion play earlier this month. Worked fine.
I usually buy all my tickets on the DB Navigator app. It doesn't look like it has the capability to sell the (edit) 9€ ticket, but has a link to the DB website, where you can buy the ticket under your username. I assume that allows you to access it through the DB Navigator app, but maybe someone else who has done it can let us know?
Tickets for Munich - Oberammergau are availabe through the app, like any other ticket that's available on the DB web site. Perhaps there was a brief glitch when you tried it.
Sorry... my post was not clear. I only had a Bayern ticket option... not the 9€ ticket option.
@Dave: Just give it a try - it should work (does here). Initially, the DB app and web site were the only vending channels the DB wanted to use for selling the 9€ ticket. Only due to political pressure, it is now also available at vending machines and at the ticket window.
Still not getting it but haven‘t updated the app in over a week — crappy hotel internet + not wanting to use up cellular data for updating apps.
