Will be traveling down the Elbe River and stopping in Bad Schandau, Germany. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good Spa? And luncheon spot?
I was in Bad Schandau in 2012. The only Spa I saw was the Toskana Therme, right in town.
I was here for four nights, so I ate in a few places. I can't remember particulars, but I can't remember anything negative about any of them. I think I ate the first night at Hotel Lindenhof, across the street from the Spa. It was a little pricey (22€ for dinner with a couple biers and a tip).
If you are arriving by train, the station is across the river from the town. There are occasional buses, but the most reliable transportation to town is via the little ferries (Fähre) that run up and down the river every half hour or so.
The Viking dock is on the same side of the river, a few hundred yds from Toskana.
The other major attraction in Bad Schandau is the Kirnitztalbahn country tramway along the valley to Lichtenhain. One of very few remaining traditional German roadside country tramways, and one of only a couple in the country still using traditional small four-wheeled tramcars.
The best attraction near Bad Schandau is the Königstein, and unbelieveable fortress on top of a flat topped hill in the Sächische Schweiz.
