My friends have a relative (father/grandfather) who was from Spandau. He came over between WW1 and WW2. They are planning a trip to Berlin and would like to see Spandau. My question is.. is thier anything to see in Spandau?

I have been to Spandau a couple of times, a few years ago, well worth it. Spandau was a Garnisonstadt, a fortress town. It joined Berlin in 1920 to make the city Groß-Berlin. See the German military WW1 memorial plaques in the city hall too, aside from the suggestions above.
My first time in Spandau brought out two immediate reactions from me: a.) Being there I didn't feel I was still in Berlin, a purely subjective feeling.
b.) I realised immediately that I should come here back in the 1970s , or , at least by the summer of 1987, which I had the time on that momentous trip to Berlin, ie, see Spandau prior to the fall of the Wall.
I like Spandau. The Rathaus, as mentioned above, is fun to explore. I think the Spandau Citadel is pretty interesting, too. There is an interesting chuch, and it's nice just to wander around a bit. The 1936 Olympic Village is nearby but would require a car to reach. It is in the process of being converted from dilapidated ruins to useable housing. Interesting history -- interesting transformation.
