Southern Germany spring or fall?

Planning our first trip to southern Germany, need help to decide what season would be best! We like it cooler not above 75ish F. No snow!! When are the fall colors there best? Or spring in bloom?

I'm sure there are good arguments either way.

Weather isn't totally predictable--nor is fall color--but you can view 10 years' worth of day-by-day, historical, weather statistics on timeanddate.com. Some places in Europe--but not all--tend to be a good bit drier in the fall.

What isn't subject to any year-to-year variability is the length of the days. They'll be a lot longer in the spring. To me that matters a great deal; to others, not at all.

I have never been to Germany in the spring but we visited Germany in mid-October and it was just beautiful! The sun was shining most days, the leaves were turning and we were fortunate to have very little rain (one drizzly morning) and no snow! We did need light jackets every day and one day we pulled out the heavier coats. I guess good weather is just a matter of luck but we felt it was the perfect time to be there!
