Southern Germany/ 7-8 nights/ Itinerary ideas

I am just beginning to think about a trip to Germany spring of 2015.. This would include flying into Munich and out of Frankfort(probably) or vice versa..The only thing it must include is a night or 2 very near Erlangen, as we will rent a car to travel to the little town I lived in many years ago (Hemhofen).. Other than that, we like to stick to mostly train travel and we are not museum types ,so the big cities aren't a must. We usually enjoy the mid-sized towns and villages better. Thanks

I would suggest flying into Munich, spending two or three days there, making a day trip to the town near Erlangen, then taking the train or car to Ulm, (gorgeous cathedral with, I think, the highest steeple in the world), birthplace of Albert Einstein, then continuing by train or car to the towns along Lake Constance, the Bodensee. Lindau and Ueberlingen are very pleasant, relaxing with good hotels and good food, beautiful scenery..
Just make sure that you book your ticket to or from Frankfurt, so that you don't end up in Kentucky.

Thank you , Joan, for your quick response and I will definitely book out of Frankfurt, rather than Frankfort... Sounds like a good plan to start me on the right track... Also thought about Nuernberg ,as my 1st child was born there... I'm guessing the old Army hospital has been torn down long ago.
