Someplace for dinner in Rothenburg December 24?

I'll be in Rothenburg from December 22-26. My hotel restaurant is open December 25 and 26 but closed December 24. I have been emailing my hotel for ideas but the one hotel/restaurant they suggested, Burggarten Palaise, is only open for hotel guests. I also checked Gasthof Butz and they are closed on December 24. Does anyone have any leads on a restaurant open on December 24, 2022? I would really prefer someplace within Rothenburg and not having to get in a car and drive.

As a last resort, I am staying in the "family apartment" part of the hotel with a partial kitchen (I think it has an eclectic burner in addition to a full sink, fridge and table). I guess I could always do German wurst and sekt......

We stayed at the Romantik Hotel Markusturm and had dinner there and it was really good. It was so good that we ate dinner there two nights in a row. You will need a reservation as the restaurant is pretty small.

When we were in Germany over Christmas we found that just about everything shut down early on Christmas eve including the Christmas markets. We were in Rothenburg before and spent Christmas eve and day in Munich. We were staying in fully equiped apartment (7 of us) and were advised to shop our Christmas dinner the day before and eat in. We did. Now the beer halls in Munich were open and packed on Christmas day. We did not see any open restaurants. A couple of years later in Spain for Christmas we found the same situation.

Restaurants are not open on the 24th, either not at all, or they shut down by 1400. In a big city, you might find an ethnic fast food place open or the infamous Hofbrauhaus in Munich, but that is it.

Have you thought about switching hotels to one that has a meal on this day or evening?

Most Christmas markets actually shut down on the 22nd or 23rd, unless they are that rare market that is going to be open after Xmas.

Check with Restaurant alter Keller. They rent apartments, so they may be open.

I was curious, so I did a quick Google search and found this one restaurant where several of the reviews mentioned that they were open on Christmas Eve. I don’t know if that is still true but you can always message them and ask.

We ran into this exact problem several years ago. As we recall, we emailed the tourist office for suggestions and they sent over a list of open restaurants, and yes, reservations are a must. Will look to see if we can find the list again, but, it would be several years old.

Hi folks a quick update. We are staying in the "family apartment" in our hotel which we stayed in 15 years ago (but in October, not December). We decided to avail ourselves of the complete kitchen and cook on December 24. We get there on December 22 so we'll have time to stock up. We already have dinner reservations in our hotel for December 23 and 25.

I do plan on stopping by the TI and checking before heading out to the food stores since we get there on December 22.

Market wise, yes most close on December 23 except for Nuremburg which is open on December 24. That's what we'll be doing.

Now to see if the hotel will allow us to drag in a small Xmas tree for the apartment!
