Some confusion about "Rhine in flames" in Rudesheim this weekend

Hi all,
I recently moved in to Wiesbaden Germany and now have sufficient knowledge about travelling around here and have visited many surrounding areas. I recently got to know about the "Rhine in flames" festival, one of the event of which is supposed to happen at Rudesheim/Bingen on 1st July. I plan to experience this events and have a few questions around that.
First, what i know already - From the website, i know it will happen right between Rudesheim and Bingen, starts at 11 PM and there are possibilities of reserving on one of many cruises to enjoy the firework. I will be going there alone, so i do not wish to reserve anything in the cruises or hotels nearby. I just want to find a sweet spot on either side and enjoy the fireworks.
So the questions:
- So should i just go and sit somewhere or i should reserve something ?
- Where exactly in Rudesheim or Bingen should i go ? Anyone who has been there, can you recommend a good spot ?
- Should i try to go up the Niederwald ? (considering it would be pretty dark till that time)
- Would there be sufficient trains back to Wiesbaden after midnight ?

Your last question can be answered on bahn.com quite easily.

As for the first, you could just arrive early and follow the Germans to get a good seat, or this page states a list of restaurants that you might be able to reserve at, although by now I'd imagine every restaurant with a good view is probably booked up.

The best view is from a ship. You can book at the "Bingen Rüdesheimer shipping company"
http://www.bingen-ruedesheimer.de/themenfahrten/rhein-in-flammen/ or KD https://www.k-d.com/de/events/ or http://www.schifffahrplan.de/events/kundenEvent.php?ku=RIF0701 or other shipping companies in the area.

If this is too expensive for you, you can go to the wine yards behind the Rüdesheim railway station. There are some ways in the wine yards you can go to. Look at Google Maps: the starting point is the "Am Feldtor" street near the old Asbach distilery behind the railway station. Take something to seat on with you. You will be not the only one there, do not be to late. Niederwald is also an option, but mostly overcrowded.
