Around 10-18-16 I want to
Travel between those towns for about a week . Am concerned about the weather .
Would like to do some bike riding but maybe 15 miles a day .
I understand that I could have my luggage moved to a new town or stay on a canal
Boat ? Being solo & 70 yrs old , but on good shape , I could use some advise on how to do this .
Any advise out there?

Here for tours on the Mosel in October.

Having luggage transfers puts you in the "tour" category. Rent a bike with luggage carrier would set you free to travel on your own at your own pace. You can bring your bike on the regional train that runs between Trier and Koblenz, and certain buses as above.

I wouldn't want to bother with bags. Suggest you spend 2 nights in 3 different towns - but rather than ship or carry your bags, use the trains and buses to move from one town to the next with your bike and bags - then after dropping bags at your chosen accommodations, do round-trips or loop outings by bike. The public transport system is very accommodating. Day passes for passengers are cheap. Bikes are free on trains for most hours of the day. Details...

BTW the Cochem area has a free "guest ticket" for free local transport when you stay in certain accommodations:

Being a woman of certain years, if I were to do this, I would choose either a bike and barge (but likely they require you to bike closer to 40km) or an Inn to Inn type situation. I've done bike and barge before but not in Germany. I love not having to repack and you don't have to stay with a group. From what I hear an Inn to Inn program also allows you to bike the miles you choose and not worry about moving your luggage. This would be my second choice. I would not travel independently with a bike because, if you have your luggage you can't stop along the way, etc. Also, if traveling solo in this manner, I would prefer someone knows that I haven't shown up for whatever reason and track me down.
