My husband tells me that you can make an appointment for security screening at the Frankfurt airport. It is called Smartway. Has anyone used this, any information about it you can share? Thanks. We are in Berlin now, flying through the Frankfurt airport heading home to DFW on Saturday.
Looks like it's free, so perhaps a no-brainer to book, but if you're connecting in FRA and not
originating, you have less control over your arrival time at the security checkpoint, so you
could either miss your appointed time or get there too early and maybe just go thru security
anyways.
Since you are connecting to a non-Schengen flight, I believe you will need to go through
security at Frankfurt, but someone else can hopefully confirm. If you don't, there is no need
to do this.
If you have to clear EES procedures in FRA rather than Berlin, that is more likely going to
be the time killer, but I am not sure about that either.

In this case, Smartway doesn't apply to you. It's a service for travelers whose trip begins at FRA. But you'll remain airside during your layover and won't go through security at all (though there might be an additional security check just before the gate).
The biggest time-consuming part is the EES anyway, and that will be in Frankfurt.
