Smallish Town Within An Hour Of Frankfurt (Train or Car)

I will be taking my elderly uncle to Germany in October to visit his children and grandchildren who live there. It has been decided that we will fly into Frankfurt and the family will staying together in a rental house. There will be 6 adults and twins who will be 23 months old. We will be there from October 16-23. My cousins have a lot going on, so I thought maybe I could assist in finding a place. We would need at least 4 bedrooms (5 beds) and 2 bathrooms. If anyone knows of a place or has any suggestions I would love to hear them. The family live in Cologne, except one who will be coming from Hannover. That would probably eliminate places too far south of Frankfurt. Thanks for any assistance.

Will the rellies be driving down or taking the train?

I have no idea of places to stay but my wife and I liked the small town of Idstein which is full of Fachwerk. It has a neat tower and the town is really really nice. Jo showed it to me. We liked it so much we rejigged the plan and spent a night there. That was a hotel though so a non-starter for your gang. There is a train station there on the RegionalBahn line between Frankfurt and Limburg(Lahn).

Wiki on the town: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idstein

Official town webpage (in Englsh, there's more is you switch over to German by clicking the flag):- https://en.idstein.de/

Good luck.

It sounds like you might want to check out Air B&B for a place to stay with that big of a group. We're getting a condo through Air B&B for Oktoberfest in Munich so much more affordable than the hotels.

I have a friend coming over from the UK next month and she and her family have rented a house in Niedernhausen. There are 7 adults, but not sure how many bedrooms. Will ask where she found this home and the price. The town is on the S-bahn line S-1, I believe and Idstein is the next stop after it if you were on a regional train.

Thanks everyone. I've looked at Airbnb, but wasn't sure what areas to focus on. Since I posted this I found out that my cousins got together this morning and they think we should stay somewhere along the Rhine. My cousin mentioned that she is looking into a house that has good proximity to Wiesbaden and Mainz. She found it on a German site. Ms. Jo, I would love to get more information about the place you mentioned. I'll take another look at Airbnb too. I just purchased our airline tickets and we will fly in and out of Frankfurt.

Nigel, I'm not sure about how the family will arrive. My aunt, from Hannover, has a small car. My two cousins have never owned cars, since the public transportation in Cologne is so good. One cousin's boyfriend has a car. Apparently he won't be able to take time off of work, so he will just join us when he can. That means a place closer to Cologne. I'm very comfortable driving there if necessary, so we will see what ends up making the most sense.
