Small cruise port advice

We are taking a Viking Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam in May 2023 - postponed from 2020.

There are a lot of small ports along the way such as Bamberg, Wurtheim, etc. Melk other than the abbey?

I am wondering if anyone has any hidden gems they might have discovered in these small towns. We are content with strolling around on our own but just looking for guidance if anyone has insight. Thanks!!!

Happy traveling!

I wouldn't call Bamberg small. If it is too small for you there is a train to Coburg where the castle that Prince Albert grew up in is open to the public (a long way up a very steep slope). We loved it there.

But Bamberg is no one horse town. Lots to offer.

Do you stop in Regensburg, its great.

Once on the Rhine, do you stop at Rudesheim, another great stop.

We loved walking around Bamberg and Melk! Quaint old town streets and shops if you enjoy that?

If you stop at Esztergom, the Basilica is beautiful. Nice climb up to it.

Melk was also nice. But we really enjoyed Esztergom
