We need to get from Berlin to Amsterdam, in May -- is it possible to take an overnight train with a private sleeping compartment, to any city reasonably near Amsterdam? I looked online, and it appeared that we can, but my travel agent wasn't able to find anything definite. I'd rather not spend a whole day on the train, and by that point in the trip we'll have had our fill of flying.
Forget the train. EasyJet.com flies from Berlin-Schönefeld Airport into Amsterdam Schiphol in an hour. And their airfares are so cheap and easily ordered online. It's the quick and efficient way to travel. Not all European trains are fast, modern trains with good air conditioning,
Hi,
Unfortunately, that night train Berlin to Amsterdam was taken out at the end of Dec. 2015, a pity since I had wanted to do that direct night route. But there is still night service without the sleeper, such as Amsterdam to Munich.
Part 2 here....The easiest way to do the Berlin-Amsterdam by night train requires one change of trains. Take the IC Berlin to Duisburg, arrives after 0600, then take Duisburg Hbf to Amsterdam Centraal on the ICE, direct. This is the way I would do this route, ie, by a combination of night and day trains.
There is alsp a non stop day train that takes just 6:26 or a one change that is only 6:08. The cheap advance tickets are only € 39.
The early train (06:30ish) will have you in Amsterdam by 13:00 - the 09:00ish train by 15:00. It is a pretty ride and the train is very comfortable. Beats the airport hassle hands down!
Not sure where you are looking but here is the DB site:
