Sights around Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Like most tourist I want to pack to much in a short time. We will arrive in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on 2 June and leave on 5 June. Would like to go up to Zugspitze see both castles and visit violin museum in Mittenwald. Is it possible? We will need to see two of our destinations in one day. Zugspitze morning and Mittenwald afternoon maybe?

The Zugspitze is not the only mountaintop. Since you need to condense things, you can handily combine the violin museum, a ride up the Karwendelbahn, and other activities/sights in Mittenwald into a single day trip. See the day trip guide to Mittenwald below for details. A good number of my own adventures around Germany were inspired and assisted by the author (Earl Steinbicker) of this guide; his very practical guidebooks, "Daytrips Germany" and "Daytrips Bavaria," are worth far far more than their purchase price.

I assume that by the two castles you are referring to Neuschwanstein and Linderhof? Try the Garmisch Partenkirchen Tourist Office for possible bus connections. https://www.gapa.de/en

When I went, the buses from G-P to Linderhof were much more frequent than to Neuschwanstein. Doing both in one day will be hard because of the distance between them, the bus schedules, and the specified admission times.

The Zugspitze cog railway station is adjacent to the DB station. Since it is a one-track cog railway (with passing areas) the frequency may be slower than you expect.

The Partnach-Klamm is a remarkable alpine river-ravine with a walkway bolted to the sides. Unforgettable. Beats the Rockies with age.

I believe he means Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Both castles are near the village of Hohenschwangau. Hohenschwangau is the "castle" in which Ludwig was raised. As a child Ludwig looked up at Schwanstein, on which there were two castle ruins, and dreamed of building his own on that rocky hill. Eventually he built Neuschwanstein.
