Siegfried's Mechanisches Musikkabinett Ticket Question

I'm beginning initial research for a June 2026 trip including a Rhine day cruise. Many posts here have been quite helpful - thank you to all who have shared their experience and advice.

I'm intrigued by Siegfried's Mechanisches Musikkabinett in Rüdesheim, but find the website short on specifics. It is made clear that guided tours are required and suggested "we recommend you to reserve your spots online, over the phone, or by visiting us on site".

For those of you who have visited Siegfried, I wondered how many days in advance you made your arrangements/reservation? I was hoping for some flexibility in choosing a Rhine cruise day to take advantage of the best weather. That could mean last minute contacting Siegfried, at most a day or two in advance. Will we be locked out of availability? Probably, we would be looking for an afternoon time slot in mid-June.

I have also noted that organized Rhine group tours sometimes include Siegfried - I fear we won't be able to beat the demands of larger groups. Thoughts welcome on this!

Thanks - I'm interested in all your experiences and thoughts on the venue!

ORDTraveler, hopefully you will get a response here, but a recent review on TripAdvisor (from last month) discussed this a bit. I'll put a link to it, but here is the relevant language that might be helpful to you.

This is a popular museum for large tour groups that go through Rüdesheim including boats full of seniors that stop here on the Rhine River. The only way to enter is to join a guided tour and when we went around 11 am we had to join a fairly large tour group but it wasn't an issue. We visited multiple rooms with self playing instruments and the guide played the instruments that the group chose in some rooms or selected the best ones for us to hear.

If you can't get to the one in Ruedesheim, the Speyer Technical Museum is mostly based around transport, but also has a significant collection of mechanical musical instruments, many in working order.

Thanks Philip and Sam!

I appreciate the suggestion of Speyer Technical Museum - my companion for this trip would enjoy that.

We aren't beer drinkers (I sometimes feel out of place in Germany), but we will be in Cologne. Spot looks interesting! I'll note it as an option - thanks!
