Siegen HBF

Hi,

I will be travelling to Aachen on the last weekend of April from Frankfurt Main HBF using the DB Weekend Ticket. My preferred schedule require a transfer at Siegen HBF to Aachen HBF with a short connection time of 4mins, and is required to move from Platform 3 to Platform 55 in that 4mins.

I can't seem to find any latest station layout map on the internet, and clips on youtube only show the Platforms but not really the route such as the stairs leading to the platform, etc. And it also don't look like Platform 3 is just across Platform 55.

Anyone can advise if I will be able to cross/walk between the 2 platforms in 4mins?

Siegen Hbf. has only two platforms. At the first platform are tracks 1 and 2, at the second platform tracks 3, 4, 54 and 55. So from track #3 to #55 it's a same platform connection.

All the pictures on YouTube show trains coming in on tracks 54 and 55, which are opposite each other on the same platform. How can track 3 also be opposite track 55?

Not saying it can't be, just asking how.

Update: Now I see on YouTube that tracks 54 and 4 are stub tracks, that is, they don't go entirely through the station, but dead end against the platform. So maybe all four tracks are stubs. Actually, two tracks could be through tracks with two tracks as stub tracks ending against the platform between the through tracks. I do see that one set of stairs says it is to tracks 3, 4, 54, and 55. A little like tracks 104 and 105 in Koblenz.

Just check the link I have provided above. Track #1 (stub) and #2 (through track) are at the platform adjacent to the station building, The other four tracks, i.e. #3 and #55 (through tracks) and #4, #54 (stubs) are at the island platform. Confusing numeration scheme due to historical reasons.

Looks like the arriving train terminates at Siegen, and the departing train originates at Siegen, so they are meant to connect and the short time indicates it is an easy transfer.

Dear all,

Thank you for the information especially @sla019 and @Sam who had provide info that assure me that the transit is easy. Also thanks to @Lee on taking the trouble to check Youtube again for info.

Further travellers who have the same question as mine, you can be assurred that the transit time of 4-6mins is sufficient (not considering of might be delayed train schedule) as the platforms are really "connected" so as long as there are no big or new construction/changes to the station.

If you are not the nervous type who worry that train might delay, you can go ahead to purchase your ticket without worry.

Me and my family had a wonderful time in Germany and hope other travellers will also have a good time in Germany.

Also thank you to Rick Steves for this wonderful community that provides many travel information😍
