Should I take horse carriage or bus for Mary’s Bridge (to see Neuschwanstein Castle) ?

Hi,

We are interested to see Neuschwanstein Castle, but not taking tour or walking inside. We would like to see it from Mary’s Bridge, which is said to be most photogenic space for castle.

We will be going in car, with one year old child and stroller doesn't seems to be good option, being steep climb. We can take him in baby career, so want to know, if bus will be feasible or should we take horse carriage ?

  • Which option will have less steep and less walk ?

  • I am going there in mid October. Will there be long wait to get horse carriage, if that is more feasible ?

  • What would be best time of day to see castle from bridge (depend on sun location) ? I will start from Munich, so I will reach castle around noon. But if different time is suggested, I can adjust my time accordingly. I am asking from photographic point of view.

Suggestions please.

Thanks

My husband and I will be visiting around that time, as well! I have been researching this also and I think we have decided that taking the horse carriage is the best option for less walking because it drops you off closer to the castle. I will be following this to see if anyone else offers other suggestions though!
Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Walked it wish I had spent the small amount for the carriage ride up. I did take it down though.

We were just there and would suggest you take a bus if you are just going to bridge. It will put you abive the castle but with a five minute upward walk to the bridge. The carriage ride takes you below the castle and would be quite a walk up to the bridge. We were on the bridge around noon and got lovely photos. If you are with a small child, I personally would buy the round trip bus ticket. It's a steep walk either way.

Skatie, did you saw any stroller in the bus ? Just trying to make it more easy, if taking stroller can be taken there.
My stroller can fold, but car seat, which attaches with it, can not.

Skatie nailed it. The bus brings you to a point above the bridge, the carriages take you to a point on the road below the castle. Unless you want to walk up a very steep path from the castle to the bridge, take the bus.

Pretty sure there were strollers on bus. It was a jam packed bus with most people standing. The bus ride was a bit scary for me as he drove quickly on very narrow rode with switch backs. But I guess they do this so many times a day that it's like nothing to them!! The path to the bridge from the bus I believe is more like a well worn dirt path with slight incline and not a cement path so not sure if u could take the stroller on that section (I waited for my kids to do this as I didn't want to go to bridge) . However if u were to walk down from the bus to the castle that is on a steep downward cement path that would easily accommodate strollers.

I will not be going to inside castle anyway, so I think, stroller should not be taken.
