Short Visit to Konstanz. Advice on itinerary?

I am in the planning stages for a (short) visit into Konstanz. I arrive by train at 10:35 AM on the 29th, and have essentially 1 1/2 day on this trip.

On day one, by the time I drop bags at my hotel right near the train station in Konstanz, I'll have from about 11:15 AM to the rest of that day. I also have the entire next day.

I'm looking for some advice on the following things, especially on ferry versus bus, versus train on some of these. Here's a brief list of major things I have come across. I've also listed several things that MAY be too far, given the timeframe I have on this trip.

Any advice or things I have missed?

My real question is how much can I reasonably expect to do, while minimizing the time on trains or ferry's, but balance it against a taste of this area.

Meersburg - Castle and Royal Palace (By Ferry from Konstanz or from Konstanz Stadt?)
Insel Mainau, (by bus or ferry?)
Friedrichshafen, Zeppelin museum 2 and especially the view from the lakefront in Friedrichshafen! From Zeppelinmuseum follow boardwalk Westbound all the way to that church!
Rent Bikes in Konstanz for a casual ride, or take bikes to Reichenau?

Possibly too far in this timeframe?
The Rheinfalls in Schaffhausen
Reichenau with its Abbey
Lindau

We biked around Lake Constance a few years ago (over 7 days). Our favorite stop was Lindau, 2nd favorite was Meersburg - the castle there is very good. We also really enjoyed Constance! As far as renting a bike in Konstanz - that was probably our least favorite place as far as biking goes. If you do want to do this I would recommend biking the stretch between Konstanz and Mainau.

We spent some time in Überlingen across the lake from Konstanz and saw most of the things you have on your list. Depending on time of year I think I might drop my bags at the hotel on day one and go on the bus to Insel Mainau. Are you going April 29? Look around Konstanz in the evening. On day two, I'd get a ferry day ticket and use the excellent ferry service to go to Meersburg, Friedrichshafen for the Zepplin museum (save the lake views for Lindau) and end the day with a nice dinner in Lindau before taking the ferry back to Konstanz. Take a look at the ferry schedules as they seem to travel in an inefficient W pattern across the lake but it is a beautiful ride and it works for daytripping and exploring. The main ferry line has a three season schedule.

That link really helps with schedules. Is the trip back from Lindau to Konstanz really RED route? It looks like 9 stops to get back.

Am I missing something, or maybe do the trip in reverse, starting in Lindau, and working backwards, so by end of day the trip is the shortest?

Also, Are the ferry fares hop off hop off? Or daily? or are you expected one trip?

Thanks for all the info!

You can buy a one way way destination fare but you can also buy a hop on and off day fare too, just ask at the ticket booth. I think with my limited German the price schedule that tells about the daily fares is here. http://www.bsb.de/einzelreisende.html

It was a little bit confusing but when we had questions we just asked, i.e. Can we take this ferry or the next one with our ticket?

I see that our Überlingen green line was the main W route one. It's all very efficient. With the summer schedule, the ferrys just glide back and forth meeting each other mid lake. When one docks, another is just 15 or twenty minutes behind on the next stop.
