We will be in Munich for 3/4 to 1/2 day after a river cruise. Is the best way to see the city the Hop On Hop Off bus? Would like a narrative for the sights. Any other city tours to take?? Teresa
I don't know if there is one best way to see Munich, but with limited time the HOHO will at least give you the chance to ride past most the highlights. At the end of a trip, I have usually reached the point where I can't really absorb much more, so this might be all you need.
We used the HOHO in Munich in October 2015 and were perfectly happy with it. My favorite sight in Munich, aside from the food, was the BMW World and Museum.
Thank you for the response.
You could do a bike tour with Mike's Bikes. It was a highlight of our time in Munich.
Alternatively, you could download the RS audio guide to Munich and wander around yourselves.
It is a great city. I am sure you'll love it!
A hoho bus is one of the poorest ways to see a city unless there are mobility issues or the weather is crap. Read reviews on Trip Advisor to see what I mean.
Consider a walking tour or bike tour. There are many to choose from, not just the ones listed by Rick in his book. Radius is one of the most popular, but there are lots more. Avoid the "free" ones unless you enjoy walking with 40 people and having a guide who has only learned a script.
If I only had half a day (or 3/4) in Munich there's no way I'd get on a bus. Depending on where I'm getting dropped off I'd head to the Marienplatz. Then I'd just walk around the center of the city, take in a Museum (The Scientific, The Hunters, The Residence, The Kunsthall; there's about a dozen in easy walking distance), or the Open Market, or a church, or a beer hall, or go shopping, or just sit and people watch. You don't need a tour, you just need to get out and walk around.
