Short stop / lunch in Bavaria

Our next Europe trip begins with 4 nights in Munich, followed by a 7-day bike tour around Lake Constance.

We're picking up a rental car in Munich the morning we leave, and we need to be in Konstanz by late afternoon. Any suggestions on the best place(s) to spend 2-3 hours in between? Thanks!

You can try Memmlingen, which has a nice walled historical center. Or, if the weather is clear, perhaps stop in Oberstdorf and even take a lift to one of the mountain restaurants. If you stop in Oberstdorf, though, you may not want to leave.

Joe, We've done the 7 day bike tour around Lake Constance and it is probably the most fun thing we've ever done in Europe in 5 trips! Have fun! You do know it is easy to take a train from Munich to Konstanz? Just under 4 hours. If you want to drive you could go through Fussen and see the Castles.

Maybe Andechs or Wieskirche? Andechs Monastary makes their own beer, so perfect for lunch. Wieskirche is a pilgramage church (rococo) with a very small community around it where you can get lunch.

Neither is quite half-way to Konstanz.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'll check out Andechs, Wieskirche, Memmlingen and Oberstdorf (and heed Tom's warning if we stop at this last one :)

Jill- that's great to hear you enjoyed the tour! We're really looking forward to it-- and to a week of hiking in the Salzkammergut after! We did look into trains, but the flexibility of having a car won out.
