ship extra luggage ahead from Munich airport

I am planning a two-part vacation next summer in Europe. Part 1 is a solo cycling tour, and Part 2 is car trip. I have a suitcase of things I won't need until the second half of my trip, and I won't be dragging them behind me as I'm cycling. I fly into the Munich airport and start cycling from there for a week. I will have a hotel reserved in Verona, so I am thinking I can ship things to the hotel and have them hold them there for me. There must be other options. Does anyone have experience do something similar in their travels?

Thanks Sam.
I found a cheaper service. Since none of my items are fragile, I was thinking of shipping the suitcase as a package. I did some research, and DHL might be the answer. There is an office near the airport in Munich, and another office near my hotel in Verona. It looks like shipping would only be only 21 euro for my 10kg package. If they are open on Sundays, and if the office in Verona will hold it for a week, I'm all set.

If shipping things via postal service make sure you fill out the customs forms in detail to reduce the chance things are held up. I've had this happen to me in Munich before when someone sent me a gift for Christmas but didn't fill out the form properly and I had to go to the Zollamt (Customs office) in Garching and complete the form before they would release the package to me. It was a lot of work for a pair of socks.

Shipping items from Munich to Verona should not have any customs issues as both Germany and Italy are members of the EU.

There will be a form to fill out though. You will need to fill out a sender address and sendee address. If you list your US address as the sender will this be problematic? If so you could list your name and the address of the hotel in Italy as the sender.

I had to mail something from Austria to Switzerland this summer (I know not EU) and the Austrian Post people were great in helping me pick the right type of packet and form to use. They advised using a non US address on the package even though it was being mailed from Austria to Switzerland.

If you go with a private shipper they should be very helpful too.

Looks like DHL is closed on Sundays, and that's the day I arrive. They open at 8am on Monday. So I guess I will plan my trip around that limitation, unless there is another delivery service that is open on Sundays.

Are you sure Deutsche Post is closed on Sundays at this location? On the link I posted above it says

“Opening hours Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Sat, Sun 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.”

They also list a phone number. I’d use something like Skype and call them to verify hours on your arrival day and the size and weight of item they can ship for you. I’d also make sure the hotel in Verona will receive and hold it for you. We have friends who have biked from Munich to Verona and back the past two summers. They love it!

Well this is surprising. It doesn't look like Deutsche Post has an email address for customer service. If you have questions, you have to call them. Please point me in the right direction if I am mistaken.

Your starting page for research should not be the deutsche Post website but DHL, the freight division of Deutsche Post.

There are other carriers as well; google for Hermes, DPD, GLS, TNT.

Have you priced shipping your things directly from the US to the hotel and not bringing it with you (on a Sunday) on the plane? That way you would be good to go and start your bike trip upon landing.

Besides my non-cycling clothes, etc, I have some cycling tools that I need only on arrival that I will be shipping to Verona, so I still need to figure out the shipping options.
I do have the Deutsche Post number at the airport, so I will just call them.
Thanks everybody for the help!
