Is it acceptable in most German restaurants to share a main dish? From what I can tell, portions can be pretty big. I have no issue with a plate charge for the extra plate.
Sharing a main course was never a problem on our one and only trip to Germany in 2015. With that said, we usually shared another course - appetizer or dessert, and never once shared our beers. We were never charged for an extra plate.
Sure, you can share. You can also ask if they have half portions. I do this quite often at my favorite restaurants in Frankfurt.
Agree that I never had situations where this wish became an issue.
If you eat lunch ("Mittagstisch") around noon some restaurants offer their a la carte dishes in smaller versions for a lower price.
Thanks for the info, folks! This is a great resource.
