We plan on going Mittenwald next Sept. Would this be a good home base for manybe day trips? Any suggestions for lodging or a better area....I love the look of the towns. Thank you, Jo

Mittenwald is on a train line in between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck, Austria. So outings to those towns are rather easy. As you can see on the above map and on the bus + train line linked map that follows, it's a little further from Mittenwald to some of the other destinations in the area including Füssen (by bus from G-P, or train to Reutte + bus,) Oberammergau, the Wieskirche, Linderhof, and Ettal Abbey. G-P is probably one of the better train and bus hubs for the area. Oberammergau can be good too. Just depends which places you want to visit.
