Seiffen in December-Car or Train/Bus?

Planning to visit Seiffen (overnight) as part of a trip in early December. I have researched public transit and car options; both have pros and cons. The options we're considering are:

  1. Train to Chemnitz, store luggage for a few hours, pick up car and drive to Seiffen. The following afternoon drive to Freiberg, drop the car, and spend a night before continuing on by train.
  2. Train to Olbernhau, bus to Seiffen. Next day, bus to Freiberg and overnight before continuing on. This would be on a Saturday; according to current schedules buses run in the late morning and late afternoon so we'd likely opt for the late afternoon option.

If the weather turns snowy, would a car or a bus be the best option? The driver has snowy road experience so that's not an issue...but it's not exactly relaxing either! Is there something else I might be missing? We are open to other suggestions.

We went to Seiffen early last December as a day trip from Dresden. I had been worried about the weather and it turned out to be a beautiful blue sky day, no sign of snow anywhere. I booked a tour with Die-Tagestour.de
We had a wonderful time!

I've driven there for a few overnights in December over the years with and without snow. Unless you are in the middle of a snowstorm, I don't think you will have any problem. It can get very cold. The Toy Museum is fun. We like to eat at Gaststätte Holzwurm (make reservations). Time allowing check out Berggaststätte Schwartenbergbaude for the views. Freiberg is nice too. A little out of the way but with a car is Annaberg-Buchholz.
I did get stuck once around 15+ years ago in Oberwiesenthal in February (Skifasching), but that was in a heavy snowstorm. Needed a push out.

Thanks to both of you for your encouragement regarding weather/road conditions. I think we'll rent a car, as it should (hopefully!) allow us more time in Seiffen than if we had to make multiple transit connections. I appreciate the restaurant recommendation; we just talked about needing a reservation so it is good to hear from someone who has visited the town.
