We are travelling from Prague to Munich in late May on the last leg of our 14 day trip. We will have started in Munich, driven to Salzburg and then to Prague. We fly out of MUC at 330PM, and are looking for a nice place to stay within an hour of Munich the nite before our flight. If we leave this town town at 11AM, we should have enough time to turn in our car and get to our gate a couple of hours before departure. So, we're seeking your recommendations that would be great for one nite at a hotel and a nice place for dinner. Any recommendations? Thanks. Scott

Do you really mean an hour from Munich, or an hour from the airport? The airport is about 25 miles (35 minutes) by car north of downtown Munich. I assume you want to be an hour from the airport.

Regensburg? Mapquest puts it at 1 hr 6 min from the Munich airport and it's a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's too big to be considered quaint but it does look lovely (I've never been).

Freising. Turn in the car in the evening and take the bus to the airport in the morning (20 min).

Landshut is also nice. Freising and Erding are nice towns right next to the airport that are worth a day trip from Munich so they would make a good last night before a flight locations as well.

Freising is our favorite the night before we leave by the Munich Airport. It has the Domberg (Cathedral on the Hill) and Weihenstephaner Brewery for sights. The town also has a wealth of restaurants and cafes for us to get our last fix of German food. The Wirthaus Weißbräu Huber is our favorite restaurant.
We like to stay at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in the heart of town.

We splurge and catch a taxi from the Hotel to the airport - about 20 minutes as SLA said.
We are flying out of Frankfurt next time and are already lamenting missing Freising.

Hi ...ana beer- Are you taking the dog with you? Anyway. I second Freising for a last night stay. However, I have always stayed in Munich for my last night and taken the SBahn (or driven the car or caught a taxi ) to the airport the morning of. There are many hotel and restaurant options in Munich and the Sbahn gets you to the airport within 30 minutes. If you are still driving and staying in Munich the last night, pick a hotel with parking.
