seeking advice on 35 hours in Frankfurt

I've overnighted in Frankfurt before and aside from some cool museums along the river and Goethe's house I didn't come up with much to do. With apologies, it reminded me of Houston. I'm hoping that's been my own fault and that in the past I've been lazy, tired, or simply missing something. So I would much appreciate some fun suggestions. Restaurants, obscure museums, a spellbinding tour guide to hire for a few hours, anything. I've got 35 hours between landing in Frankfurt after an overnight flight from the U.S. and taking off for an overnight flight to Africa. My adult daughter, who's never been to Germany, will be with me. So if we hunker down in Frankfurt, that's all she will know of Germany. I was thinking of taking the fast train from Frankfurt airport to Wurzburg, a place I really like, but that's an hour and a half each way eaten out of those few 35 hours. Advice?

I'm sure Jo, who lives in Frankfurt and runs a walking tour there will post with suggestions of what to see. This site's guidelines prevent her from promoting her own business, but I can do it for here. Her tour company is Frankfurt on Foot.

Are you flying into Frankfurt airport?

You could also take the train down the river to Bacharach and see some of the Rhein gorge. To me that would be more interesting than Würzburg. If you are leaving from the airport, it's 1h20m to 1½ hr to Bacharach. You take either the S8 or any regional train to the Mainz Hbf, then a regional train from there to Bacharach. Round trip for both of you in a single day would cost 34,50€ with an RMV Gruppentageskarte. Go from the close-in (under the building across the access road from Terminal 1) Regionalbahnhof; you get to it by going down stairs or elevators just inside the hall to Terminal 1 and through a passageway under the street.

In Mainz, you get the RB to Bacharach on track (Gleis) 11, which is not out beyond track 8; it's a stub track ending against the far end of the station building, across the platform from track 1.

In Bacharach, if you want to cruise the most interesting section of the Rhein, get on the K-D boat and go down to St. Goar. If you show them your train ticket you'll get a 20% discount on the boat ticket. From St. Goar, take the train back to Bacharach. Your Gruppentageskarte will not cover to train from St. Goar to Bacharach; you have to buy that part, 3,80€/adult, separately.

Many thanks, Lee. I completely forgot I've been to Bacharach before, just a few years ago in fact, but by way of Koln, and I guess I didn't grasp it's location relative to Frankfurt. I loved it there and would like to take my daughter for even a brief visit. Wine, history, architecture, cool hiking, a boat ride...say no more, folks, I think we can close down this thread.
