Seehafen to Rostock Hbf?

We were scheduled to arrive at Warnamünde via cruise ship May 2017. We recently learned that due to multiple cruise ships being at the Warnamünde terminal on the day we arrive, our ship will dock at Seehafen/Rostock instead. This has complicated our plans as we were going to walk from the Cruise terminal to the Warnamünde train station, take the S-Bahn to Rostock Hbf. and then on to Wismar and Schwerin. My understanding is there is no passenger train from the Seehafen docks to either Warnamünde or Rostock, and the only way to get from Seehafen to a passenger train line is via a bus. While we’re not "rushed" (we arrive at 7:00 hr. and sail at 21:00hr) we are a bit nervous about spending too much time waiting on and riding a bus (2 ways). Additionally, we haven't be able to determine where the bus stop is vis-a-vis the Seehafen docks. Since we are only two of about 2,500 passengers, we assume taxis or some other type transportation will be available but we would prefer to make our plans on more than an "assumption".

Any comments on this would be appreciated. Permit me to say again our destinations the day we're in port are Wismar and Schwerin and we planned on using the train; should we take a taxi to Rostock Hbf. or elsewhere? How long a taxi (?)trip is this and what will be the likely cost?

I haven't been that far north in Germany (but Schwerin is nice!), but I found some info on the CruisePortWiki website. You can probably get some current info by posting on one of the cruise forums.

Hi,

I've done that train trip between Schwerin and Rostock. If you get in at 0700 at Seehafen/Rostock, then take S-Bahn to Rostock Hbf., change to Schwerin. I would even consider the taxi depending on its cost, ie under 12 Euro. Main thing is to get to Rostock Hbf. Choose between Wismar or Schwerin. My choice is Schwerin. I would think going to both is cutting it too close From the time you get off the ship, you can be in Schwerin by 11 am or so, as long as you don't dilly-dally, which is I know very tempting to do. What struck me at Rostock Hbf is the number of staircases.

I haven't been there, so I'm just trying to understand the choices, too. If you arrive near Rostock Seehafen Fähre, I also see info focusing on bus #45 or 49 for the first connection. I think the transport maps are not to scale, when comparing to Google Maps.

Fred, did your ship arrive at Alter Hafen Nord? I do see an S-Bahn station there.

@ Laura...I took the train to Rostock Hbf. from Hamburg Hbf. a few years ago. That train stops at Schwerin before proceeding to Rostock where I got off.

Prior to 1914 there were two major cities in the Mecklenburg duchies, Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the more historically famous one connected to Prussian history, and Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Rostock's Altstadt/ Zentrum was one of the first cities to be hit by British night bombers in 1942.

Hi Jon
We are having the same problem. We will be docking in Seehafen/Rostock in June 2017. I have read that the S Bahn train does not stop there on a regular basis. Don't really want to take the bus and get held up there. Have you found out anything about taxi's?
I have read there will be taxi's there but don't know if just a few or what.. I would like to think they would be plentiful since there are so many passengers.
Thanks in advance of any help you may give me.
Barbara
